The photographer that caught my eye is Olivia Parker. Parker was born in Boston, MA in 1941. She graduated Wellesley College in 1963 with a degree in Art History and was a painter in the beginning of her career. Parker found interest in photography in 1970. She is primarily self-taught and her style of photography is still life, inspired by those painted in the traditional Dutch, Flemish and Spanish 17th century style. Her inspiration for still life has a lot to do with her early art history studies and in her own words describes her self as a “watcher”.
Olivia Parkers photography caught my eye, as some objects in her photographs appear blurred as others are still and crisp. This along with the colors of her subjects, makes her work very eye catching. Blurred motion is very interesting to look at and it makes the viewer want to take a closer look. She uses objects with interesting shapes such as shells that look very detailed. Most of her still work is shot in her studio. |
